DIANE

Diane learned at an early age that she liked to “Make Things”. Influenced by her grandmother who was a professional seamstress, and her mother who encouraged creativity, Diane started to teach herself how to make all kinds of new things. Some of the projects included sewing for her son, herself, and home decor items, leading up to making her first quilt. Realizing she needed some additional instruction, she took a class through community education, which lead to a 17-year quilting teaching position with Duval County. Diane loves all kinds of handwork including knitting, crochet, spin, weaving baskets, sewing, painting, drawing, zentangle, woodcrafts, and is learning mixed media. For 11 years she was a Living Historian and created items from period-appropriate materials and used period patterns from ladies’ magazines or draped her own patterns. Diane has been using a Janome for years, and has started learning all the sewing and embroidery machines at FAS. She is starting to teach classes to make a tiered skirt, when you stop by to see us, she will probably be wearing one.
