It sure has been steamy, so we are going to try to cool things down a bit with Christmas in July! My, gosh, the fabrics are wonderful with great new motifs, new artists’ renditions of Christmas. Christmas fabrics will be 20% off all July!
On July 11th , from 10am-3pm, we will host Harry Megowan, who will sharpen scissors and knives. Beauty shears $15.00, Sewing shears $6.00, Small knife $2.00, Large knife (more than 6” blade) $4.00. If you can not be here on that day, you can bring your items for sharpening to the shop at any time before then.
During the first week in July, I will be at JANOME INSTITUTE learning about all the new things they are introducing and the new projects for your machines. After taking a breath, we will celebrate JANOME weekend on July 15th to July 18th. The schedule of events is listed below. Pictures of the projects will be on my website soon. In addition, we will have some blow out pricing on select older model machines, 20% off JANOME brand accessories, 10% off JANOME software and more surprises.
JANOME
WEEKEND is July 15-18. We will have Joyce back
to teach another serger class, and JANOME
educator, Nancy Fiedler, will do Digitizer Jr software classes, sewing classes
and trunk show and more. In addition,
you will receive a coupon for test driving any JANOME
machine. There will be refreshments and door prizes at the Friday night
Cocktail Hours with Nancy Fiedler. Do not miss this special event. The first
ten customers each day, on Thursday - July 16, Friday - July 17 and Saturday -
July 18, who come in the door and loudly say: “I Love
My JANOME” will receive a special Christmas gift. (One gift per
customer).
In
August, FABRIC ART SHOP will start a new
reward program. When you spend $50 or more, you will receive a gift

18, 2009 Wednesday, July 15: 2-5 pm Elegant Pocket Placemats Learn to use beginning serger techniques to make this fun and useful project. Instructor: Joyce Swackhammer Thursday, July 16th: 1-4 pm Luxurious Linens Pillowcase for owners and want to be owners of the JANOME 6600, Heart Truth, Jems and other machines with decorative stitches. You will learn how to use the decorative stitches and some heirloom techniques to create a wonderful gift use in your own home. Instructor: Nancy Fiedler 6-9 pm Stippling Designs: This project introduces the use to the built in Stippling designs and the Acufil Calculator to create a whole cloth table runner. Machines needed for the class are the MC 11000 upgraded and MC 11000 SE. Instructor: Nancy Fiedler Friday, July 17th 9-12 noon Digitizer Jr. Learn how to use your program, or simply audit the class to see what it can do for you. It goes beyond what Customizer did for you with a most reasonable cost. Digitizer Jr. is upgradeable to the full Digitizer Pro or MB. Instructor: Nancy Fiedler 2-5pm Hand Look Quilt Stitches: Like the look of hand quilting, but don’t have the time? This pillow project is exclusively quilted with the new hand look quilt stitches on the MC11000SE or your upgraded MC11000. Special techniques to accomplish this will also be given for those of you with the MC6600 or any other computerized machine. Instructor: Nancy Fiedler 6-8 pm Cocktail hours with Nancy Fiedler, JANOME Educator who do a Trunk show, talk about JANOME possibilites, and have Q&A. Refreshments and door prizes. Saturday July 18th 9:30-10:30 am Demo, Q&A on why and how to use special JANOME hoops: Macro, Giga, Hat, FA. Those of you who have Customizer and Digitizer may want to better understand doing layouts on the larger hoops. Instructor: Nancy Fiedler 12:30- 6:30 pm Special Edition Bag: This project uses the new features of the MC11000SE. Memorized seam length, blanket hem corners, built in decorative stitches and Acufil Quilting with the AQ hoop, also use of the border guide foot. Instructor: Nancy Fiedler People who purchased their JANOME machines/software/upgrades from FABRIC ART SHOP will not pay the class fee and only have to purchase the kits. If you do not own one of the mentioned JANOME machines/software and are interested in how they work for your future purchase, you can still audit the class(es). Beginning Quilting Techniques—Learn what tools suit you best, what fabrics will give your quilt interest and spark; and how to construct a 4 block sampler quilt. You will learn how to cut, piece, appliqué, apply sashings and borders as well as learning to sandwich, quilt and bind your quilt. Machine work is encouraged but hand work is also welcome in this very informative course. 6 regular sessions plus 1 appointment session are included in the course. SHOJI --Lee Starr will lead you through the construction of this strip pieced quilt. Good for beginners and quick for the experienced. The technique can be used for quick and easy quilt projects such as service quilts. It can be made with only three fabrics though you could use a large scale print for the border if you choose to add it. ($25 –(includes pattern)-- plus supplies + fabric kit), Sunday, 1-5, September 27.
Let’s Oil Paint with Sandy Lindfors. How long has it been since you’ve dipped your brush? Savored the smell of mineral spirits? Well----bring your half not finished or paintings that need tweaking or ideas for a new painting and let Sandy help you. A class for beginner to intermediate painters. Learn composition, perspective and "tricks" for making frameable oil paintings. Oil Paint Kits, brushes, palette knives & canvas available at FABRIC ART SHOP. Watercolor Painting with Wally Reichert— ($35.00 per session + supplies, Intro $15.00 + supplies) Water color paper and painting tools available at FABRIC ART SHOP. Dye-Painting Lace—Some laces can be white but maybe you need a unique color lace for your garment or project. Easily learn how to make your laces unique. ($15.00 + supplies ) Sunday, August 30, 1-5pm
Origami Kimono---Lee Starr will teach you the secrets of fabric folding that will make three dimensional kimonos. Then you will add those to accent the wall hanging. ($25 (includes pattern) + supplies), Saturday , September 19, 1-5 pm
Hand Quilting Techniques -- Lee Starr will get you started on the art of hand quilting. Once you learn the basics, be sure to join her hand quilting group some upcoming Tuesday afternoons. ($25.00 + supplies) Schedule your appointment with Lee.
Appliqué Block—We still have a couple spaces left in the current project or you can bring your own. Construct appliqué block or project each session. Your project can be from different scraps and fat quarters—or you may choose to use the same fabric grouping for each session and put the blocks into sampler quilt. This quarter we will continue with the McKenna Ryan’s FOREST HOLLOW which can be seen at her web site: http://www.pineneedles.com/index.asp I have ordered all 40 bolts of her fabulous fabrics for this project and others you will want to do. Stash Buster Party—Get your machine & scraps together, and bring them in to sew up really good looking quilts. Free patterns will be provided and you get to sew, socialize (stitch and bit__) & shop. Fabrics & threads will be 20% off for everyone who joins this group and sews for 2 or more hours. Bring your show and tells and also, feel free to bring your dinner or snack along. Tatting & Crazy Quilt Club-- You will need muslin for the block foundations, and lots of fun fabrics, threads, beads, lace and more. Then we’ll put it out for all to share. KIDS ART CAMP will be held for 5 days, from 9 am-12 noon on August 3-7. This year the kids will get “artsy”! We will be teaching: drawing, oil painting, marbling fabric in shaving cream, painting lace and making and hand sewing embellishments such as Angelina, beads, charms and trims. $100.00 includes lessons, supplies and snacks |
Cuddly For Comfort -- Come sew, sandwich, quilt, bind for disaster victims and community service as we need to make lots of quilts, tote bags, wheelchair and walker bags, etc. Lots of donated fabrics have come in from individuals and manufacturers. we have many more needs than we can accommodate. Please come on out and volunteer! Piecing, quilting & binding and in-kind donations. Donations of money for shipping are always welcome.

Policy for Classes:
Class supply lists normally will be at the store. Classes may be cancelled with advance notice in the case of emergencies. Under these circumstances, class fees will be credited to another class. If you do not notify us of cancellation at least 4 days prior to class, no refunds or credits will be given. Signup lists will be available immediately. One-on-one classes at your request are available by appointment at $25.00 per hour. These classes must also be paid at time of registration. Group meetings, such as Tatting and Crazy Quilt, Socials, Appliqué Block, Hand Quilting Group, do not require advance payment or registrations, though we do appreciate knowing in advance if you will attend.
