Spring has sprung and we have the new SUNSHINE 16—a wonderful new and affordable mid arm !  We will also be introducing the new  JANOME machines:    AQS 25 year celebration edition of the Jem 760 Platinum and the DC2010 serger.  ruthie’s  Kreative Korner will feature Lutradur and what you can do with it.  Come check it out.  We scheduled monthly Stash Buster parties.  Sandy and Wally’s popular oil  & watercolor painting classes are back as well.  The kids will be making a fabric doll with Sandy’s guidance in the Kids Sew class.  Many of you expressed a desire to do the Sakura quilt and learn the X Block technique, so Lee will lead you through those.  Beginning quilting starts in May and we are taking  registrations right away.  The next appliqué offering will be McKenna Ryan’s FOREST HOLLOW   which can be seen at  her web site: http://www.pineneedles.com/index.asp    I have ordered all 40 bolts of her fabulous fabrics for this project and others you will want to do.  Of course we are constantly getting in more exciting fabrics, books and toys. Remember the fabric dying class is on April 4^th and only 8 places will be offered.  This class is filling-- get it and other classes on your calendar and sign up now to reserve your place.  This should be an exciting season with what we offering and Quilt Shows in Tifton, GA on April 9-11 & Paducah on April 22-25.  We will be welcoming the Lady of the Lake Quilt Guild for a thread painting class on May 20.  Please be sure to get with your education coordinator to sign up.  Supply lists will be out mid April.

There will be a limit of 14 per class and we can run 2 classes that day.   Just to get a head start, you may want to mark your calendars with some upcoming events:  July is Christmas time, when Christmas fabrics will be 20% off, JANOME WEEKEND is July 16-18 and we will have Joyce back to teach another serger class, a JANOME educator who will do Digitizer Jr & Pro software classes, sewing class and trunk show.  On July 11, Harry Megowan will be here to sharpen your scissors.  KIDS SEWING KAMP is scheduled for August 3-6.

Beginning Quilting Techniques—Learn what tools suit you best, what fabrics will give your quilt interest and spark; and how to construct a 4 block sampler quilt.  You will learn how to cut, piece, appliqué, apply sashings and borders as well as learning to sandwich, quilt and bind your quilt.  Machine work is encouraged but hand work is also welcome in this very informative course.  6 regular sessions plus 1 appointment session are included in the course.  ($65.00 + supplies)   Tuesdays  -- Day Class 10-1,  Night Class 6-9pm   May 5, 19, June 2, 9, 23, 30,  plus 1 appointment

Kreative Korner -  ruthie miller will guide you through this fun series of classes designed around a “Kreative” technique. For a couple of hours ruthie will help you explore new & exciting things you can do or use to make your next quilt, mixed media or doll project extraordinary!  You might have to bring a few supplies you have around the house, but if we are using a new product you will just have to pay a small materials fee to use the shop's supply.  Class size will be limited so register early....classes may be repeated.     ******Fun With Lutradur.....it also has been around for years but it is regaining popularity! Learn how versatile you can be with it and what wonderful and kreative things you can do with it to embellish quilts, clothes, shoes, mixed media project, dolls, the list goes on....... Saturday, May 16, 10-12 noon  ($10 plus $ 5.00 materials fee. )

Fun, Fast, Fantastic Quilts (3F) –Introduction --This is a lecture-demo class by ruthie miller based on the Mary Ellen Hopkins book, “It’s Okay If You Sit On My Quilt”.  It is designed for both beginners and seasoned quilters and will teach the principles necessary to give your quilts the Art School Graduate look. In addition to precision cutting, piecing and pressing techniques you will learn such things as the value of value, the roles that fabrics play in a quilt, design concepts, easy construction techniques and sewing secrets that your mother didn’t teach you plus much, much more. A small quilt will be constructed as a homework assignment to allow you to put into practice what is learned in class. ($35 plus book, supplies and fabric for homework quilt). (NOTE:  This is the second recommended class for Beginners)  3 sessions  Saturdays  June 6, 4 hours 10-2, June 13, 2 hours 10-12 & June 20, 2 hours 10-12.

SAKURA  --Lee Starr will lead you through the construction of this exquisite wall quilt top.    ($20 –(includes pattern)-- plus supplies + fabric kit), Sunday, 1-5, June 7

X Block Techniques—Lee Starr will show you how to make these very fun blocks with her signature twirl on the back of the block sets    ($20.00  + supplies).  Sunday , 1-5, May 3  or Monday , 1-5pm,  June 15

Fabric Dyeing—Learn the steps of preparing your fabric, preparing your dye liquor, playing with colors on your fabrics, and making your creations permanent.  ($55.00 includes chemicals + supplies )  Saturday, April 4^th,10am-4pm

Five & Dime Quilt---Lee Starr came up with another quick to piece quilt that can be made for lap, twin or larger quilts.  Learn this fun technique.  $20 (includes pattern) + supplies, Tuesday , 1-5, April 14

Hand Quilting Techniques  -- Lee Starr will get you started on the art of hand quilting.  Once you learn the basics, be sure to join her hand quilting group some upcoming Tuesday afternoons.  ($25.00 + supplies)  Schedule your appointment with Lee.

Appliqué Block-- Construct appliqué block or project each session.   Your project can be from different scraps and fat quarters—or you may choose to use the same fabric grouping for each session and put the blocks into sampler quilt. Quick Finish Technique Table Runner—Make a wonderful table runner that is constructed with a very easy quilt as you go method.  ($17.00 + supplies)  Saturday, May 2, 2-6

Beading on Fabric & Quilts – Learn to properly apply bead embellishment to garments and quilts so you will have no fear loosing your beads when washing and handling them.  ($10.00 + $10.00 Kit)  Saturday, June 27, 10-12

Quilting Without The Dogs (free motion quilting)--From basic straight line to specialty design quilting used by Barbie in a variety of unique quilts. Through special exercises you will become more comfortable in working without the Dogs.  Beginners through advanced students can learn and enjoy this class.  ($15.00 + supplies) Saturday, May 30, 2-5

Stash Buster Party—Get your machine & scraps together, and bring them in to sew up really good looking quilts.  Free patterns will be provided and you get to sew, socialize (stitch and bi­­­t__) & shop.  Fabrics & threads will be 20% off for everyone who joins this group and sews for 2 or more hours.  Bring your show and tells and also, feel free to bring your dinner or snack along.   FREE---    Fridays 3-9PM, April 17, May 15, June 19

Tatting & Crazy Quilt Club-- You will need muslin for the block foundations, and lots of fun fabrics, threads, beads, lace and more.  Then we’ll put it out for all to share.  We will meet once a month to feed our addiction to these wonderful quilt and stitchery techniques. Cuddly For Comfort  -- Come sew, sandwich, quilt, bind for disaster victims and community service as we need to make lots of quilts, tote bags, wheelchair and walker bags, etc.  Lots of donated fabrics have come in from individuals and manufacturers.  we have many more needs than we can accommodate.  Please come on out and volunteer!  Piecing, quilting & binding and in-kind donations.  Donations of money for shipping are always welcome.   Special Cuddly sewing sessions will be on Saturday & Sunday afternoons   1-5pm  April 11, 18, 19, 26, May 9, 23, 24, 31, June 6, 13, 21, 27, 28

Policy for Classes:

Class supply lists normally will be  at the store.  Classes may be cancelled with advance notice in the case of emergencies.  Under these circumstances, class fees will be credited to another class.  If you do not notify us of cancellation at least 4 days prior to class, no refunds or credits will be given.  Signup lists will be available immediately.  One-on-one classes at your request are available by appointment at $25.00 per hour.  These classes must also be paid at time of registration.  Group meetings, such as Tatting and Crazy Quilt, Socials, Appliqué Block, Hand Quilting Group, do not require advance payment or registrations, though we do appreciate knowing in advance if you will attend.
